Momo Pixels Hair Nah is an online game that shows the struggle of black women's hair getting touched without their consent. In the game, the player has to swat white people's hands away from the head and hair of a black girl. The way players do this is the arrow keys on a keyboard. The game starts by the player customizing their character and choosing a place for the character to end up at the end. Each level gets a little bit harder and the scene changes every time. It takes place while the character is getting ready to travel and takes the player through the airport, on a plane, and finally, at their vacation destination. The player moves up a level once the Nah Meter fills up completely. By precisely swatting the hands away, the Nah Meter moves. If you miss a hand, the meter will go down.
The game was made in an attempt to bring awareness to the problem of people touching their hair without their consent. People will use the excuse that they’re “curious” of the different texture. This behavior and these actions give off the impression that Black women are seen as objects and treated as a sort of spectacle. A lack of understanding of black hair is rooted in our history on a personal, cultural, and professional level. Doing this act is a form of microaggression, which often leads to- and is- harassment. Doing this crosses many lines and violates a person's boundaries.
